Yield of Gratitude / Background

Dear (...)

I am very happily handing one of my recent paintings to you. I must admit that receiving a present from someone you do not know might seem suspicious. Regarding that, I would like to state that I do not expect anything in exchange. However, I am aware that receiving a gift always entails some kind of feeling of being indebted. In that aspect, I honestly encourage you not to be tempted by the momentum of answering me in any way after this altruistic offer. I will positively consider everything you consider doing with the canvas I am presenting you :)

There are several reasons why I have decided gifting you an item. First of all, it is directly related to the logic that my own production system has acquired. A situation that evolves from the fact that my duty has not generated much public interest. However, that experience made me understand and discover that building an artistic narrative despite the art validation systems and the market. Secondly, it concerts the work's own subject matter, which host a triangulation among ideas from the artwork understood in terms of information/gift package, the artwork as a free energy production attempt and the artwork as a design of an open system. This way, gifting you a piece of artwork keeps the offsetting of fulfilling my activity with drift.

Given the fact that my vital subsistence and my love for art do not depend on selling pieces and that, conversely, I feel the need of rethinking how to boost my work system; I have got to the conclusion that I should spread my artistic production wherever I decide to. In this case, in a place that, at one point or another, were and are a big incentive to keep on designing.

Finally, I would like to express all my admiration and honest gratitude.

Kind regards and thank you!

Yours sincerely,

Ricardo Trigo, 2021
